Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, made this known in a statement in Benin, Edo state on Tuesday. “A clinically-tested ventilator produced by a team of researchers in the faculty of Engineering and Medical Sciences has been presented to the management of the University led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami. “The invention is in response to the vice-chancellor’s challenge to various experts in the university to make relevant marks to showcase the institution’s talents,” she said. Prof. Kensington Obahiagbon, the leader of the team, said that the group known as COVID-19 initiative took into consideration peculiar circumstances of the country while producing the ventilator

LAGOS PROTESTERS KICK AGAINST CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN, ATTACK POLICE OFFICERS

At least five police officers were injured on Monday as a protest against security agents turned bloody at Eleko community in Ibeju-Lekki local government of Lagos State. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that youth in the community had a face-off with police officers whom they accused of bias in enforcing the coronavirus lockdown in the community. Bala Elkana, police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the development in an interview with PREMIUM TIMES. He said 51 protesters were arrested, following police reinforcement. Speaking with our correspondent, one of the residents who asked not to be named said while residents and other company workers in the community were forced to stay in their houses, expatriates working with Dangote Refinery were allowed to go to their places of work. The youth in the area burnt tyres on the streets to express their anger over the alleged bias. The protest went bloody after the arrival of police officers, as the protesters resisted “intimidation.”

- Stranded Nigerians in the UK have cried out, begging the government to evacuate them back home   - The Nigerians said most of them are negative and do not mind self-isolating when they arrive - A source in NEMA said they have to be careful about the evacuation process as it connected to the pandemic Nigerians that are stranded in the United Kingdom have expressed great frustration over how their evacuation is being delayed by the federal government. The Nigerians said that the government does not have the right to keep its citizens out of the country for whatever reason, Daily Trust reports. According to a statement released on Sunday, April 26, by Olajoke Adesipe, a representative of the Nigerians, most of them are negative for coronavirus. The Nigerians, therefore, appealed to Geoffrey Onyeama, the minister of foreign affairs, to urgently come rescue them.
