A fire outbreak on Thursday night destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira at Balm of Gilead Specialist Hospital and Marketing Centre, Ilesa, Osun. The fire which started around 9 p.m lasted for about three hours before it was put off by firemen and good Samaritans. Prof. Alexander Owolabi, a Consultant Gynaecologist at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife, who owns the hospital attributed the fire outbreak to electrical high voyage. Owolabi expressed dissatisfaction on poor service of the fire service, adding that unavailability of good fire fighter vehicle, scarcity of diesel and water among others contributed to the total loss of the whole resident. He appealed to governments to provide adequate and functional fire fighter vehicles, sufficient diesel, water and other necessary materials used to quench fire outbreak in the interest of the citizenry. Five persons have been declared missing after Enwhe and Igbide communities of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state clashed over a disputed plot of land. The Punch gathered that a woman with six and half month-old pregnancy was also shot dead during the fracas. It was gathered that the five missing persons comprising three women and two men had not been seen by their relatives since last Monday fracas. Our correspondent learnt that the victims were from Enwhe community. Igbide community also claimed that one Prince Palmer Obukeni and a woman with six and a half month old pregnancy were also shot dead during the clash. A source in the community told our correspondent that trouble started when some women from Enwhe who had gone to harvest cassava on Monday morning were allegedly attacked by suspected gunmen from Igbide at the site of the disputed land. Nigeria’s hope of being certified Polio-free by the World Health Organisation (WHO), next year, might have been dashed, as two new cases have been reported. Health authorities in Abuja have, however, remained silent, with key officials refusing to be quoted. The two cases of Wild Polio Virus (WPV) were discovered in Gwarzo and Jere LGAs of Borno State, yesterday. A top health official said the country has decided to term it a ‘suspicion’, while it seeks the best approach to break the news to the public. It was learnt WHO could announce the development at a press conference in Geneva tomorrow. Last month, July 24, Nigeria celebrated two years without any new case of Polio because the last known infection was in July 2014. It is uncertain how the WHO will handle the resurgence. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter Friday to express his annoyance at being detained by US airport immigration authorities for the third time, saying the experience “really, really sucks”. Aondosoo Winifred Tondo, a lecturer at the University of Mkar, Gboko, Benue State, was murdered in the early hours of yesterday, at his house located within the University staff quarters. Reports have it that four gunmen stormed his house at about 4 am and shot him in front of his wife. He was nursing an ambition to contest for the chairmanship position of Buruku LGA. Woman flees after dumping her child at the Assemblies of God church, Obudu, Cross River state. . . The baby was discovered at the church premises around 2:30pm on August 4, 2016, after the mother, Monica, had reportedly collected N1,000 from Francis Agianpuye, the reverend in charge of the church, some days earlier. . . Agianpuye said he discovered the child who had been abandoned with some clothes in a bag, and had sent some youths to go in search of the mother. When they couldn’t find the child’s mother, he made the decision to take the matter to the police. . .
