Ex-militants block East-West Road over unpaid allowances

Image
Hundreds of former militants yesterday protested the continued delay in the payment of their allowances. The militants from Bayelsa and Rivers states blocked Mbiama Junction which left many travellers on the East-West Road stranded for several hours. Governor Seriake Dickson had, on Sunday, appealed to former militants to exercise patience with the Federal Government over the delay in the payment of their allowances but, his plea was rebuffed as they barricaded the road yesterday and chanted war songs against the federal government. Armed with placards with different inscriptions, they demanded payment of their allowances. They accused the Amnesty Office of attempting to trigger violence in the Niger Delta by deliberately withholding their allowances for four months. Imo workers to get 3 months salary arrears

Image
Governor Rochas Okorocha has ordered payment of three months salary arrears to Imo State civil servants. With the governor’s directive, workers will get April,May and June salaries at once. Okorocha, who gave the directive at the weekend during a meeting with Directors of Accounts, Treasurers and Permanent Secretaries at the Government House, assured that henceforth, salaries of civil servants would be paid as and when due. The governor said they could get more, depending on the revenue profile of the state at a particular month. Meanwhile, Okorocha also disclosed

Image
Chief James Ibeka is the spokesperson, Movement for Change, a pressure group in the  All Progressives Congress (APC), in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State. In this interview he speaks on the activities of the group and other issues. What is your assessment of Governor Akinwumi Ambode’s one year in office? Governor Ambode has really done so well. There is no doubt about that. These are part of the process of democracy whereby the citizens could always have their dividends, which our party has been canvassing. The former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola did so fantastically well but I am so impressed with the current governor of Lagos State. Under one year, the governor has done tremendously for Lagos State and we are happy about his leadership. How prepared is your party for the forth coming local government election? Yes,  if the election holds today, APC will retain the whole 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs. We are fully ready for the elect
