Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party are said to be sharply divided on whether to support Chief Bode George or Mr. Jimi Agbaje for the position of the national chairman of the party, investigations by our correspondent have revealed. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a robbery suspect, Olawale Olabinwonu, while attempting to sell a stolen vehicle. Olabinwonu, an administrative officer of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad while trying to sell a Nissan Sentra, 2015 model. The vehicle, whose number plate was changed, had been placed on an online shopping platform, where it was advertised for sale. Police investigators had, on seeing the advert, called the contact on the website to indicate interest. A man, who took custody of the car where it was parked in the Lekki area of the state, was said to have been arrested. The suspect, however, denied ownership of the car and subsequently led detectives to Olabinwonu’s residence. Past President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has on Sunday released a statement in response to allegations by a Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) splinter group called Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA). Jonathan was one of several people named as a sponsor of NDA in a statement released by RNDA over the weekend. The former president has however denied the allegations and even raised an alarm over threat to his life. Boko Haram attackers killed a senior prison official and a school teacher in Maiduguri. The nighttime attack took place in Bisichi village, a Muslim community in the long-troubled state of Plateau in central Nigeria, the fault line between Nigeria’s predominantly Christian south and Muslim north. Attackers used gunshots to scare villagers toward other assailants carrying machetes, said Abubakar Mohammed, the chairman of a local cattle association. The attackers stole hundreds of heads of cattle from a village, which sits in the pasturelands and mountains of the state.

Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has denied allegations that he is one of the leaders of the Niger Delta promoting militancy in the region. This came as Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being responsible for the allegations that he himself has links with the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). A group that recently split from Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), a militant organization that has claimed responsibility for bombing numerous oil facilities, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan was the grand patron of the NDA. In a statement issued today by Cynthia Whyte, an alias for a male spokesman, the splinter group also named several former and serving governors as sponsors of the Niger Delta Avengers. Those named as “sponsors” included Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Seriaki Dickson of Bayelsa. Generator fumes on Saturday killed a man identified by his neighbours as a policeman, and his lover, suspected to be a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Anambra State. The name of the policeman could not be ascertained as of press time, but his lover’s name was given as Ifeoma. Ifeoma, a mother of five and the policeman, a father of three, were found dead on Sunday, in an apartment at Ezinifite Okpuno, Awka-South Local Government Area of Anambra State. It was gathered that the policeman’s family lived in Lagos, while his lover’s family stayed in Awka. PUNCH Metro learnt that Ifeoma told her husband that she was going to attend a church vigil, but ended up at her lover’s house, which was nearby.
