Today, the Nigerian Army set up a General Court Martial to try 20 soldiers involved in criminal activities which include murder, crimes against civilians, and illegal sales of firearms in the ongoing counter insurgency warfare in the Northeast. Armed robbers have shot dead a cashier, identified only as Genesis, in the Ilupeju area of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro learnt that Genesis, a cashier with a plastics company in the Ilupeju Industrial Estate, was shot dead last Wednesday while he was heading for a bank with his colleagues’ salaries. Our correspondent gathered that Genesis was shot three times by the gunmen, who also injured the company’s driver. The matter was said to have been reported at the Ilupeju Police Division which removed Genesis’ corpse. A source in the company said the robbers, however, could not take away the money with the cashier before they escaped. He said, “The incident happened in the morning. The news came as a shock to all of us. The deceased is in his early 30s. He was on an assignment to pay the salaries of the workers when he and the driver were attacked. “The money with them was not taken.” The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident....

Though attempts have been made to assure Nigerians that there are no plans to increase the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly referred to as petrol, The PUNCH has gathered that the actual price at which the product should sell at filling stations is N151.87 per litre. This “realistic” price is more than the maximum N145 per litre fixed by the Federal Government on May 11, 2016 when it liberalised the downstream oil sector, marketers with knowledge of the market and the pricing mechanism told one of our correspondents on Tuesday. This, they said, was basically due to the continued scarcity of the United States dollar, adding that the true price of petrol was N151.87 litre, judging by the current ex-depot price of the commodity. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta says it has been vindicated by the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers’ allegation that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a grand patron of new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers. MEND claimed in a statement on Tuesday that Jonathan was sponsoring the NDA to destabilise the government of his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari. The statement signed by one Jomo Gbomo was MEND’s response to Jonathan’s denial of the allegation by the RNDA, linking the ex-President with the new militant group. They got home and the man threw the wife belongings outside, now her family members are begging the man to forgive her ignorance...*phew* My take: why on earth will she slap her husband in public? i know what the man did is wrong but slapping him in public is totally wrong, she has just given the man the upper hand over the issue.
