Ihejirika was never arrested by DSS, he is at his home in Abuja

Image
he Nation had reported that the former Army Chief was arrested on Tuesday June 21st over claims he was sponsoring the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB. A close associate to the Former Chief Of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika, has denied media reports that the former Army Chief has been arrested by officials of the Department of State Security DSS. Speaking with Thisday, Ihejirika's associate who preferred to be anonymous said "I am really amazed at the length people are determined to go to tarnish the image of the former army chief. As I am speaking to you, the chief who just returned from his village is in his house. What I don’t understand is how and why they orchestrated these fables and for what purpose. I think the intention of these people is to draw the attention of the federal government to the fact that Ihejirika has not been arrested. What people don’t know is that this government would not have wasted time in arresting I

David Cameron Resigns As UK Shocks The World By Voting For Brexit

Image
Prime Minister David Cameron announced Friday he will resign after Britons voted to leave the European Union despite his campaign to keep it in the bloc. Cameron promised to try to “steady the ship” over the next months and did not give a precise timetable for his departure but said a new leader should be installed by early October. “I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination,” the British leader said outside his Downing Street residence in London. He said his successor should trigger the formal process for Britain to leave the European Union. “I think it’s right that this new prime minister takes the decision about when to trigger Article 50,” Cameron said. “I would also reassure Brits living in European countries and European citizens living here that there will be no immediate changes in your circumstances,” he said. Flanked by his wife Samantha, Cameron said he had fought to retain Britain’s mem

Britain votes to break with EU

Image
Britain has voted to break out of the European Union, national media declared Friday, striking a thunderous blow against the bloc and spreading panic through world markets as sterling collapsed to a 31-year low. Investors scrambled to sell the pound, oil and stocks as Britain took a lurch into the unknown, becoming the first country to quit in the EU’s 60-year history, a culmination of decades of suspicion over European aims of creating an ever-closer political union. With results in for 350 of the 382 areas that took part across Britain, the result was 52 percent for “Leave” and 48 percent for “Remain”. Britain’s national broadcaster BBC and Sky News both predicted a clear victory for the “Leave” campaign. Sterling plunged more than nine percent to $1.33, a 31-year low. World oil prices skidded by more than six percent. Tokyo stocks plummeted by more than eight percent and Japan’s Finance Minister Taro Aso called an emergency news briefing. “Let June 23 go down in our

Army - We’ll probe alleged coup against Buhari

Image
The Nigerian Army has said that it will investigate the allegation that there was a plot by the service to overthrow the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Thursday that the Army would investigate the claim in order to unravel the motive behind the claim. Usman said that the “baseless and most unfortunate allegation” only existed in the minds of those who originated it. Usman, who distanced the Army from the claim, described it as a distraction to the efforts of the service to fight insurgency and other criminal elements in the society. He said that the Nigerian Army was a professional organisation and a product of democracy that would not be associated with the grave issue of truncating democratic governance. He described the allegation as a declaration of war against the current administration by the peddlers of the claim. “The attention of the Nigerian Army has been dra

EFCC Probes ExxonMobil Over Oil Deal....

Image
ExxonMobil’s deal to secure some oil blocks in Nigeria is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, according to documents obtained by The Guardian of the United Kingdom. ExxonMobil, the world’s largest oil company, was said to have secured the lucrative oil rights in 2009 by beating out China’s fourth-largest oil producer for access, despite apparently underbidding its rival by $2.25bn. The Guardian said a letter addressed to an ExxonMobil’s subsidiary from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources showed the acceptance of a 2009 bid of $1.5bn for a 20-year lease on the Oso, Ekpe, Edop and Ubit oil fields, which produce about 580,000 barrels per day between them – close to a third of Nigeria’s crude oil production of about 1.8 billion bpd, according to the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. Sunrise Power & Transmission, which was then a consortium of Nigerian and Chinese interests that included the Chinese National Offshore Oil C
