ARIANA GRANDE NAMED BILLBOARD’S 2018 WOMAN OF THE YEAR

After a rollercoaster 2018, Ariana Grande looks set to end the year on a sweet note. For, the songbird has officially been named Billboard’s Woman Of The Year.

The 25-year-old follows in the footsteps of previous honorees including Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.

She’ll be handed the award on December 6th at the 13th annual Women in Music gala in New York City.

Ross Scarano, Billboard’s VP of content, explained why she was picked in a statement:

“Ariana Grande is a star on her own terms, never bending to any particular musical trend or path in the industry. Certain in her convictions, she consistently stands up for herself and her decisions in a world that often isn’t hospitable to that sort of strength in young women. She’s got guts, she’s making some of the best music of her career, and she’s absolutely deserving of Woman of the Year.”

It’s much-needed high for Grande, who has been thrust into headlines for many a heart-wrenching reason in recent times.

Last year May saw a fatal terrorist attack take place at the Manchester stop of her ‘Dangerous Woman Tour.’ She would go on to stage a globally broadcast ‘One Love’ fundraiser in the British city in honor of the lives lost. $23 million was raised.

While this September brought with it the tragic death of ex Mac Miller, who she broke up with just months before.

A new relationship with comedian Pete Davidson (who she quickly became engaged to) ended last month.

Grande’s music, however, has fared much more successfully.

‘Sweetener,’ her fourth studio album, topped the charts upon its release in August and has spawned huge hits ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ and ‘God Is A Woman.’ Its latest single ‘Breathin’ is building into another smash, while new song ‘Thank U, Next’ is also proving a winner commercially. A world tour has been set for 2019.

Billboard’s Women In Music gala will air live on Twitter on December 6th.

Congrats to Miss Grande!
