TWO MAJOR FACTORS THAT HAS MADE RWANDA THE GIANT OF AFRICA
Volkswagen opens
Rwanda's first car plant: Rwanda’s first domestically built car rolled off
the assembly line at Volkswagen’s new
factory in Kigali on Wednesday as Europe’s biggest carmaker taps into demand
for ride-sharing to expand in the region. Despite low levels of car ownership
in Rwanda, Volkswagen hopes to both sell vehicles and use them in an Uber-like
car-sharing system that will allow people to book rides using their smartphones.
Some will also be sold into neighboring nations.
Rwanda to open its
first smartphone factory: The Minister for ICT and Innovation stated,
“Smartphones are important ICT tools since there are some digital services that
only require smartphones such as access to land services among others. There is
also need to ensure affordability of smartphones whose high cost prevents
citizens from benefiting from various digital services. . We hope that the
plant to locally produce smartphones will boost access and also economy,”
My opinion – Here we are in Nigeria with no hope for
producing anything. How can production work, when electricity is the major
factor for growth to Nigeria and Nigerians?
Electricity has made investors not even look towards us for
any reason, even the few ones who tried to establish something in Nigeria have
all moved out (Michelin, Dunlop etc.)
Reading the news sometimes in 2018 and I saw where Federal
Government of Nigeria was shamelessly headlining s news with the caption “NIGERIA WILL START PRODUCING PENCIL IN 2020”
You want to tell me we are now producing our own rice.
Really? When we were importing the same rice we paid N9,000 for a bag and FG
stopped importation of rice because they wanted to start promoting our own
grown rice which goes for N17,000 (almost twice the price of what it used to
be).
Should we talk about how much frozen food now cost or is it
how much custom now charge to clear goods from the sea port?
We used to be called the giant of Africa but not anymore as
a lot more African countries are doing far better than us, with the way the
country is moving. We will never get to the point where other smaller African
countries can look up to us for anything.
Also with time getting visas to some of these African
countries will be super difficult for Nigerian passport holders.
It’s been confirmed that international investors one way or
the other helps to grow the economy of every country but are certainly not
ready to welcome any investor(s).
